Temporary Exhibition

Exhibition The Cup Factory at Mondo Milan Museum

15 Jun, 2015- 30 Apr, 2016

The exhibition will tell the fascinating birth of the trophies, crafted thanks to an artisan work of micro fusion, also referred to as “Lost-wax casting”, for the prestigious sport organizations FIFA and UEFA, since 1971 by the Milanese company GDE Bertoni and in particular by the sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga.

Inside the Mondo Milan Museum, the samples of the original sketches, the wax and plaster models, the stamps and the machines with which these trophies were produced, will be displayed for the first time

The visitor will be able to discover the excellence of artisan work regarding the crafting of these trophies, and to see them displayed in a celebrative space designed for the exposition of the trophies, where will be exposed also the World Cup won by the Italian National Teamin the 2006 edition, in Berlin.

The exhibition will be divided into four separate display areas:

The Project
In the first room will be described the phase of design and planning of the trophy which, just like a sculpture, starts from a sketch drawn with pencil. The original sketches and autographs of the sculptor Gazzaniga will be exposed both in the only pencil version and in the colored version, drawn with all the physical details suggested by the sculpture.

The production
The narration of the exhibition continues through the photographic tale and thanks to the original testimony of the different phases of creation of the sculpture, from the clay model, to the plaster stamp and finally having the model made of wax. All these components of the production process, crucial in the production of the trophy, will be displayed in cases, to represent an historical and original contribution from that period.

The Triumph
In the third room the trophies designed by Gazzaniga and GDE Bertoni will be displayed in an emotional set-up, to allow the visitor to revive the atmosphere of triumph linked to the conquest of the trophy.

The memorabilia of the World Cup
Thanks to the collaboration with adidas Archive, in the fourth room the different editions of the World Cup carried out after the realization of the new Trophy, that is from 1974 until today, will be represented through sportive memorabilia. All the official balls produced by Adidas for the different editions of the World Cup from 1974 to 2014 will be exposed on a wall and also some footwear used by the champions of the sport in the different editions from 1982 up to today.

The exhibition is realized with the support of the Premium Partner Mediaset Premium and with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Milan.
